Coming this month to the Tate Modern….
“Men put me down as the best woman painter…I think I’m one of the best painters”
– Georgia O’Keeffe
There aren’t any O’Keeffe works collected in the UK, so this is a rare chance to get up close and personal if you don’t live in the US. Widely recognised now as a pioneer of twentieth century art and an American art icon.
6 July – 30 October ’16
While you’re there, take a short walk down the South Bank, the Festival of Love is on again from 9 July until Monday 29 August, with the brilliant “Appearing Rooms” water installation there once more – always a hit with kids and adults alike (pop a towel in your bag for that one)
There’s also “Ventricle” by SoftlabNYC on level 2, Royal Festival Hall (Blue side) again from the 9 July – 30 September. A free event, it’s part of the Festival of Love too. Described as a chance to “Gaze into a giant glowing two-part heart created using cutting-edge technology and traditional craft methods” it looks, frankly, like just a really lovely thing to take a look at and be part of.
For those who are from out of town, there are loads of great pop ups for both food and drink, as well as the usual family favourites if you’re there with the smalls. But for something a bit higher-end, and with a bit more time, there is also Skylon and Canteen, and of course, the Oxo Tower.
As one of our favourite family spaces to visit in London, no doubt I’ll be posting more on the South Bank soon, but these are my picks for the summer months. Enjoy.
